Wilderness Bike Track

On the 22nd of September room 8 went on the wilderness cycle trail for the William Pike challenge. We were sorted into car groups at school then we drove to Milltown where the bike ride started. There are different  sections of the bike ride, some are hard, some are easy. The start of the trail was pretty hard because it had quite a bit of up hill and I'm not an experienced bike rider either.

On the ride I didn't have many stops because I was behind a bit. The people in the front would stop and I would still be biking then when I finally caught up with them they would go again so I was quite exhausted!  The one stop we did make though was at Cowboy’s Paradise. This was kinda scary because a scary man came out and threatened people in my class that he would kick them up ‘bleep’ because they were skidding on the gravel. It was even more scary because he owned a shooting range and was busted for owning a massive weed farm sooo...

After that we stopped at a place I forget the name of and had lunch. There were cars there if you didn't want to do the other part of the ride. I didn't, so I sat in the shelter thing for a bit. When one of the adults asked me if I had told Ms Kemp that I had pulled out I said that I had forgotten to  so they made me get on my bike to catch up with everyone.  But they were just so far away so I got picked up once again with a couple of other people

Anyway I tried my hardest, even though it was a challenge for me. I did think it was fun zooming down the hills but I wouldn't do it again for fun though!

Tramp Recount

                             Lake Daniels Tramp

On Wednesday the ninth of September Room 8 went on a spring day tramp to Lake Daniell( Mason Nicholls Hut)  for the William Pike Challenge. Parents helped transport us  there , The tramp was six hours including the travel time and stops.

Before we actually started walking we had to have our gear checked by the teacher because if we didn't have the correct gear then bad things could happen like getting hypothermia from wearing cotton instead of thermals, not bringing water and getting dehydrated, getting saturated because you didn't bring wet weather gear.

The walk was surrounded by beach forest which was pretty cool and the water was blue.  When we got to Lake Daniels hut we sat down and had lunch by the lake. There wasn't anyone on the tramp or in the hut which was weird but cool though,

The trip back felt way shorter than the trip there.  Some people (including me) got

yelled at for throwing moss at each other so we had to walk at the back in a straight line.

Apart from that it was a good walk, lots of people enjoyed it, it would be really fun if we could have stayed at the hut and gone swimming in the lake.

Porters code of conduct Code of conduct:
People below you have the right of way:
Obey all ski area signage:

Look before you leap:`

Stop where you can be seen:
Don't lose what you use:
Stay in control - This was the main focus we worked on because it's the hardest thing to do when you're new to learning skiing and snowb=oarding. This was our main focus because as soon as you can stay in control you have done the hardest part.
Stay on the scene

In my ski lesson at porter heights it was really fun and I learnt a lot of new valuable skills and rules that i didn't know before. It was a great day and everyone had a really good time. I made it to the intermediate slope which I didn't think I would and smashed through the fence a couple of times before I got the hang of it.

In my snowboarding class it was really good and I learned a lot in the short time that we were in a lesson.  It was only me and Tyler in a lesson with the snowboarding instructor. I picked it up quite fast and I got onto the second slope quickly because the snowboarding instructor said that we were good enough to try the harder slope. By the end of the day I was really sore but had improved so much.

What should you bring? Bring ski pants, thermals and polypro tops, a warm hat, good sunglasses and a bike helmet if you're not hiring a ski helmet. we used everything we listed . Bring a big lunch with lots of sugar trets to keep your energy up!

One thing we found funny was watching all of the people fall over, we know they were only learning but sometimes it's quite funny seeing everybody fall over each other. We  also found ourselves falling over quite funny, one time Lily did a full back roly poly and then I got straight up.
