Living on the Edge

TASK. On your blog, write a letter to your best friend or a family member telling them about your trip to the tundra. Your letter must have a greeting (eg. Dear…) followed by 5 – 6 sentences of information about what your experience. Let’s imagine that your teacher decides to take you on a class trip to the tundra before the weather changes too much and you aren’t able to go.

                                                            Dear Mum

this is a story about my trip to tundra. One day miss Ireland decided to go to tundra she invited the whole class to go for a visit. It was a 20 hour walk. It was really cold and dry and there were no sighs of trees any where it was kind of hard to breathe it was 280C!

There was nothing but sand and scrap metal floating around everywhere it looked like we were in the middle of nowhere. We found a place to sleep we all got a pile of rocks to sleep on all 27 of us. We were all running out of water and had to get back. There was heaps of sand storms and we were really cold and dehydrated we also had no food! It took us 20 hours to walk from tundra to school. We will Never go back again!

Towering Timbers (Summer Learning Journey)

TASK. On your blog tell us whether you think logging should be allowed in New Zealand. Be sure to provide at least two reasons to support your argument

I think yes and no that logging can be allowed in NewZealand because firstly it provides jobs for family's and secondly you can keep warm when you want to start a fire. another good thing about logging is it provides you with things like pencils, paper and houses. The thing is that bad about logging is it wrecks homes for animals and they will have to live some where else. Also logging can minimise the amount of oxygen.

Pancakes and Maple Syrup (Summer Learning Journey)

TASK. For this activity you are asked to choose one of your favourite foods. On your blog, write the name of your favourite food and then tell us how to make it. You may need to ask a family member, friend or Google (!) for help, if you do not normally make this food for yourself.

                                  Pesto pasta

To make pesto pasta you cook your pasta  in a  pot add salt and pepper
carefully drain the water out in the sink once it cooked . Put it in a large bowl add                                   chopped pesto, salt, pepper, and grated cheese mix the cheese in.

Scaling New Heights (Summer Learning Journey)

(3)  What kind of food did you take to mount Everest?

(4)  Before you climbed mt Everest did you think you could actually make it to the top?

(5) Did your family think you could make it to mt Everest?

The WWF: World Wildlife Fund [Summer leaning journey)

TASK. Once you have watched the video, go to your blog and, using full sentences, tell us:
1) The name of the animal the WWF is working to save.
2) What the WWF is doing to help the animal.3) What, if any, success they have had protecting the animal.

The WWF (World Wild Life Fund) Is taking quick action toward helping Fresh Water Seals by building snow banks not only to be protected by human disturbances but to be protected by predators. If there weren't any snow banks then pups would be born on open ice and they would have absolutely no protection of  getting really cold, human disturbances  or even predators! They are already starting to slowly get extinct so to lose half of that would be one step closer to getting extinct.

Activity : Fantastic Beasts (summer Learning journey)

 Fantastic Beasts (summer Learning journey)

In New Zealand we have many unusual animals. One of the most unusual is the- a bird that does not have wings and can not fly. Pretty strange, eh?! J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter books, has recently written a new book about strange or unusual animals called ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.’
For this activity, please watch this cool book Trailer. Year 7 and Year 8 students in South Auckland, New Zealand helped to make it. Once you have watched the video, use your imagination and create your very own beast. What does your beast look, smell, feel, and sound like?
On your blog, post a description of your beast. Use interesting adjectives (describing words) to tell us about your beast.

Bob The Fantastic Beast.

Bob the fantastic beast has the pointy furry grey ears of a cat and a distinctive smell like burnt rubber. He also has the white tail of a dog with the legs as spotty and as strong as a cheeter. He has a back of an alligator and the belly of a striped elephant! Bob has a lama neck and head. He howls in the night time and grumbles in the day time as if he was a wolf. He feels ruff and fury at the same time. He has the eyes of a devil.

Activity 3: Weird and Wonderful (summer learning journey)

Activity 3: Weird and Wonderful (summer learning journey)

New Zealand is just one of many countries that has amazing plants and trees. In fact, the African desert is home to some pretty incredible plants, like the cactus. Some cacticous are able to survive on as little as 3 millilitres (ml) of water a day. Wow!
Let’s imagine that you are given a cactus for your birthday. To keep it alive, you must give it 3 ml of water every day.
Over one full year, how much water will you need to give your cactus plant?

Task On your blog, tell us how to solve this maths problem. You can write your answer in words, use a Sketchpad image, or post a video explaining how you would figure it out. Be sure to give us your final answer.

First you times 3 ml. by 365 ml. because thats how many day there are in a year so that equals 1095 ml.
Task On your blog list three sports teams that have the word ‘fern’ in their title. Beside each team’s name, post a picture of their uniform. Then, at the bottom of your blog post tell us which of the three uniforms you like best and why.
